DC did bring back a rather Iron Age take on Comet that looked nothing like the real one, and I believe there was a streaky like cat introduce with no superpowers whatsoever (more Iron Age "fun"). I sort of thought he had, but can't actually think of one offhand; maybe I just read a reprint or something.

Beppo seems to be introduced with the suggestion that he was an experimental monkey. Was he actually seen in any stories set on Krypton? Or monkey's in general? Super-monkey normally just had small cameo appearances in most stories other than the 1st one. The only good stories he appeared in was as part of the Legion of Super-Pets, IMHO. Though it seems like the comics never really had a problem mixing up monkeys and apes.

In a SUPERMAN FAMILY from the early 1970s that had a pull-out section about the Super-Pets, they explained that Beppo's "final fate" was to live in the jungle as the king of beasts. There's something vaguely poetic about that. |
