On ebay this week, part of a Superman Batman set from the 60s? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5987859780&category=723&ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1 Title: Re: Can you I.D. this toy? Post by: Gernot on July 23, 2005, 05:02:11 PM Ideal came out with a Justice League set featuring Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, didn't they?
That must've been the Justice League's cave entrance. Gernot.... Title: Re: Can you I.D. this toy? Post by: nightwing on July 25, 2005, 08:37:38 AM Give that man a cigar!
Here it is, the legendary JLA playset from Ideal. Asking price at the site where I found this image? $10,000. And they may get it...last year the empty box alone (albeit in great shape) went for $3,000! (http://batfan.superman.nu/images/jla-playset.jpg) Title: Re: Can you I.D. this toy? An occasional Wonder Woman utterenace... :D Title: Re: Can you I.D. this toy? Post by: Gernot on July 25, 2005, 03:00:41 PM Well, blow me down! ;)
Er, I mean, Puff, puff, puff! ;) I seem to recall a DIFFERENT window box with Batman, Robin, Joker, and Penguin on a mountain (for some reason, I also remember an Indian, too). I seem to recall Robin's foot was about to be caught in a bear trap. Does ANYONE remember this box? Am I mis-remembering? Did I have some sort of weird dream? I DO remember having Superman, Batman, Robin, and Joker from that series, as well as the Superman and Batman Creepy Crawler molds from that time period. Heh. I remember "turning" the heroes into their civilian IDs by removing the capes! ;) Gernot... Title: Re: Can you I.D. this toy? I'm too young to remember this toy when it came out (gosh, it feels good to finally say that about something!), but I think the various figures may have been shuffled around to various sets and even sold separately. For sure there was this one variant: (http://batfan.superman.nu/images/batman_ideal_playset.jpg) No bear trap, but Robin's foot is sort of "caught" in the packaging! And that's not a bear trap in front of Diana, but a "ring of fire" (no doubt left over from the JLA's deadly battle with Johnny Cash). Title: Re: Can you I.D. this toy? I think I REMEMBER seeing the variant set in an Arlen's store a L-O-N-G time ago! Geez, that takes me back... Thanks for the memories! :) Title: Re: Can you I.D. this toy? Post by: TELLE on July 26, 2005, 02:39:28 AM Cool!
Title: Re: Can you I.D. this toy? Post by: nightwing on July 26, 2005, 08:16:21 AM I can't account for the huge sums this frankly inferior-looking toy commands, but maybe it's got some historical significance. It seems plausible this was the first toy ever to feature Aquaman and the Flash in figure form. :?:
Then again, I guess you can never overestimate the power of nostalgia. I just unloaded my old Mego Wayne Foundation playset for a tidy sum, and that, in my opinion, was a hunk of junk. I figured it was time to sell; folks my age won't have disposable income forever (soon we'll need it for Depends undergarments and Super-Poli-Grip) and anyone younger than us is unlikely to see the value in this stuff. Of course I could be wrong and ten years from now it'll be selling for tens of thousands of dollars. In which case I'll be devoting my limited funds to a drinking habit. Title: Re: Can you I.D. this toy? Post by: Gernot on August 09, 2005, 12:01:41 AM Does anyone remember if these figures were available ONLY in these two sets? I only remember having Superman, Batman, Robin, Joker, and Penguin when I was growing up. I don't remember the Thunderbolt or Keyman at all.
Title: Re: Can you I.D. this toy? Post by: Gernot on September 27, 2005, 10:39:37 AM YaY! I just found another pic of a different grouping of heroes and villians!
This one's got Superman and Aquaman versus two of the villians! http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/gernot1962/album?.dir=/cfb7&urlhint=actn,ren%3as,4%3af,0 So, I DID remember these things coming out in different boxes! ;) |
