Title: Forum time changes
Post by: davidelliott on October 23, 2006, 02:16:22 PM
The time on the forum keeps changing every couple of days.  I had to reset my preferences a few days ago so it would match up with my time, now the forum is an hour ahead...

Is there a glitch somewhere?

Good catch.  Looks like the time on the server is an hour off.  I'll see what I can do.

And next week is daylight savings, just to make it more complicated!

It's doing it again... I had to adjust a couple of days ago (I was behind an hour) and just now (I was ahead an hour)

You are, on and on and on.

I might be able to help you, since I noticed my time was wrong too, not that I care, but I figured out how to fix it.

here is what you do

1st click on the profile button up on top

then while you are there under Modify Profile click on Look and Layout Preferences

Change and set your time using the Time Offset: function.

Once you are set then click on the change profile button and you are all done.

Unfortunately the timezone setting on the computer that hosts this website seems to change from time to time.  The timezone has moved from EST to Pacific to CST, where it is now.  This is the correct time zone for the server's physical location, so hopefully there will be no more changes.

It maintains a healthy four hours' difference from my time (GMT), but I can handle it: I've got a watch!

That's also what the "Time offset" option in your profile is for - to basically set your timezone.

I have a watch too, but I don't use it when I'm online.

Turns out it's a known bug in smf.  Should be fixed the next time we upgrade.
