Title: What SUPERMAN RETURNS can teach us about All-Star
Post by: JulianPerez on June 29, 2006, 03:02:36 PM
I'm sure it wasn't planned like this, but 2006 is really the Year of Jimmy.

We've got a scene stealing character part of Jimmy Olsen in SUPERMAN RETURNS, who got all the best lines in the film, and we've got a gutsy little Jimmy in the Grant Morrison book.

One thing about Superman's characterization in ALL-STAR always seemed a little "off" to me, which is done "right" in SUPERMAN RETURNS. Superman in ALL-STAR always seemed excessively polite, and while Superman has always been civil and well-mannered, he was never "old fashoined." Superman in ALL-STAR has his well-manneredness become exaggerated to superhuman dimension - apologizing to Lois because of monsters, and so forth. In SR, he's considerate, to be sure, but it's natural.

I thought we had the year of the Jimmy in the first season of Lois and Clark.
It comes and goes.
