Title: Lead cast for "Superman Returns"
Post by: Spaceman Spiff on October 19, 2004, 09:41:41 PM
According to superherohype.com, the lead has been cast for "Superman Returns" . . .

Unfortunately, there wasn't a picture of Routh in the article. IMDb doesn't have his picture either. Has anyone out there seen him? Does he look like Superman?

Here is the pic in all the newspapers:

This is Brandon Routh who really is a fan, as seen in this old halloween photo :)

"According to stats posted at IMDB, Brandon ‘B.J.’ Routh stands at 6’ 2” and just days ago celebrated his 25th Birthday on October 9th. Sadly, this is the same day that “our” Superman Christopher Reeve had fell into a coma and later had died. And Routh was born in Iowa, which is the same state that George Reeves was born, one of the original silver screen Superman stars."

Thanks for posting the pics, guys.

Well, I certainly think Brandon Routh looks more like Superman than Nicolas Cage does.  I never saw why anyone thought Cage should play Superman, but I do think he would make a good Lex Luthor (the Bronze Age, purple-and-green flightsuit version).

Here's an impressive mock-up someone did in Photoshop of Routh in "uniform:"

Spacey is good, however I tihink the casting of Routh and Bosworth are terrible. Bosworth is 22 thats WAY too young and she looks it, and Routh just looks dopey and has ZERO acting experience. It's not like he's Reeve coming out of Juliard here, this guy has done enxt to nothin. Big risk on Singer's part here....

JIMMY CAST - LOIS STILL NEGOTIATING!

Huntington files story as Jimmy Olsen
31 Jan 2005 2:12am EST - By Borys Kit
Superman has found his sidekick. Sam Huntington has been cast as Daily Planet cub reporter Jimmy Olsen in Bryan Singer's Superman movie. The cast includes Brandon Routh as Clark Kent/Superman, Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, Hugh Laurie as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White and James Marsden as Richard White. Kate Bosworth is in negotiations to play Lois Lane. Olsen was a wide-eyed photographer who even had a watch with a Superman signal. Olsen had his own comic in the 1960s and '70s titled "Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen". Since the late '80s, the comics have portrayed Olsen in a more serious light.

This is the first time I have ever commented on the casting of a superhero movie but it just struck me how Kevin Spacey's features in this context remind me of the nuanced linework of Swanderson, and vice-versa.  Beyond that temporary flash, I'm sure the film will be a bust.  And not just because Spacey is no Hackman.

Naysayer cap: on!

Appearance wise Routh looks the part.  Let's give him a chance.  Maybe if his acting isn't up to par they can have him take some lessons.

Eva Marie Saint cast as Ma K.

It also looks like Singer will have a conflict over filming schedules for Xmen and Superman.

He's not doing X Men3, Telle.  So much for the Marvel Age of Movies when one gets a chance to work on the real, steel deal!

Is someone else directing x men 3?

Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake) is the new director. Zak Penn, who co-wrote X2, whrote the shooting script for X3. However, since James Marsden got fired from the film because he's playing a supporting role in Superman Returns, Cyclops may either be recast or cut out of the series.[/color]

And elsewhere...
since Suinger dropped the X Franchise.

Scuttlebut was that Joss (buffy)  Whedon would pick up the reins.

He's doing Wonder Woman instead.

So much for the Marble Age of movies...
