Major thanks for that article Starchild, I'm grinnng like a cheshire cat right now. I'm thrilled that she's to be Supes cousin again andthat so much time and attention is going to be heaped upon her, she deserves every minute. Loving the blue skirt and what's that? stronger than Kal-El? WOW.

I haven't been reading Superman/Batman...although now I wish I was.  Do they say how and why Kara is more powerful than Superman?

Just wondering...

Psi, Superman's thought that Kara might actually be stronger was never really supported by strong evidence.  Even if Kara had been soaking continuously in yellow sun radiation all those years, she clearly doesn't have the body mass to absorb and store as much light energy as Superman, nor the overall muscle mass (but see below).

This comment has sparked a lot of controversy on other message boards.  Some have decried this as a further "depowering" of the Post-Crisis Superman ("WHAT?  He can't even beat a GIRL now?"), while others have wondered if Kara is a throwback to the earlier "planet juggling" Silver Age strength levels.

The only vaguely reasonable explanation for Superman's unease was that Kara spent her childhood and early teen years exposed to Krypton's higher gravity, while Kal was raised from infancy in Earth's lower gravity.  Thus, while Kal's muscles are visibly huger compared to Kara's, Supergirl was more attuned to heavy loads even before the yellow sun charging -- thus her taunting comment on Apokolis about all those years on Earth making Superman weak.

Now that I've had a chance to look at that art, I have to say the blue skirt makes the costume a little bland.  And Kara looks like a pre-pubescent heroine addict with implants.

I also didn't care for the undernourished Kara with the BIG eyes, but it appears Churchill might remedy some of my complaints.  As for the blue skirt, I suppose we are so accustomed to seeing Supergirl wearing a red skirt (from the 1984 movie, Kara Zor-El's "Crisis" costume, Matrix and then early Linda Danvers) that seeing the original all-blue scheme seems strangely monochromatic.

The Silver Age Kara Zor-El wore her original blue-skirted costume for over 11 years from Action Comics No. 252 (May 1959) until it was finally retired in favor of a "mod" gloves and hipboots outfit in Adventure Comics No. 397 (Sept. 1970).  The blue costume was thus seen in all her "secret weapon" stories, her ealy Legion appearances and on through most of her college years at Stanhope -- arguably the "best" period in her long career.  The "mod" minikirt was also blue with red trim, but what followed was perhaps the second-most recognizable outfit -- the blouse and red hotpants costume worn from Adventure Comics No. 410 (Sept. 1971) until Supergirl No. 12 (Sept. 1983) -- 12 years.  Then it was her final costume with the pleated red "cheerleader" skirt.

Add the years of Matrix and Linda (1988-2002) and you can see why the red skirt is so ingrained among Supergirl fans -- 28 years of red versus 12 of blue.  Even the pre-Kara Totem Super-Girl had a red skirt in her sole appearance!

Thanks DTO for the summary.  It seemed a little strange to me for that to even be said period.

I think we'll have alot of answers when the new series starts.

As for the Costumes.  Heros today are going for a less spandex look and more for real people clothing.  I think the blue skirt shows that a bit.  Look at the Titans...especially Superboy and Wondergirl.  And some of the Outsiders.

Churchill's work is going to take a while to grow on me. I like the storyline that brought Kara back into DC Continuity in Superman/Batman, but the way Turner and Churchill draw her kinda turns me off. That skirt veers way too far south for my liking. I'm as much of an admirer of the feminine form as any red-blooded male, but this is a 16 year-old girl. . .cover her up a bit more please. :)
