This is what Laura Siegel, Jerry's daughter, said in a email to editor of Superman Homepage about other Krptonian survivors:


" My dad felt the editors went the wrong way by coming up with additional Kryptonian survivors and felt the whole thing had gotten out of hand, diluting the uniqueness of the original mythos. Between 1959-1966 when he resumed writing Superman and Superman Family of character stories, he wrote many Supergirl stories but he didn't particularly enjoy them and preferred the Superman/Clark/Lois stories he wrote ."

I do think that the TAS version of Supergirl is best. It gives Kara her own background and also makes Kal-El still the sole survivor.

Ironically, and despite what he says, some of Siegel's best second-act stories are Superboy and Supergirl stories.

And let's stop splitting hairs --Supergirl is arguably a Krypton survivor.

I'm glad a new Supergirl series is coming, however just think should have gone with the TAS version for her background.  Her coming from sister planet Argos is best way to go. Its not as extreme as Matrix, and also keeps Kal sole survivor of Krypton, as he should be. Seigal and Shuster didn't want bunch of Kryptonians and a Kryptonan super monkey flying around MEtropolis. This why had Kal-El flee from an exploding planet so there would be no survivors.
