Title: Secrets of Earth 1
Post by: TELLE on June 05, 2005, 03:12:11 AM
Reading this NY Times Editorial (http://www.timesargus.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050602/NEWS/506020301/0/FRONTPAGE), I wondered, if Deep Throat was one of our greatest mysteries, what other mysteries would Lois, Clark and Jimmy be working on for Perry besides Superman's secret-id, or secret-ids in general?

Quote
Watergate aficionados will mourn the end to a 30-year cottage industry of Deep Throat speculation. It's a little like discovering that Superman's secret identity was, well — Clark Kent.

What are the "Great Unknowns" of Earth-1?

ok so this topic is wayyy out of date... but i couldnt resist

ok sooo...

JLA 144 "the secret origin of the justice league of america" has a big scare about a martian invasion one day, flash is seen to be involved and roy raymond did a programme about it... but later it was all hushed up... hmm. not to mention you could have a few "crazy cooks" working at Ferris Aircraft company could let slip that they saw a group of future JLA members talking to a test pilot... and a six months later they reappear fighting ANOTHER  alien invasion... with a martian by there side!?!?!?

just WHAT exactly is going on here?

and that superman fella.. awfully human for an alien... he acts like hes american as apple pie... and also curious how all the superbeings, aliens and la de da just started to appear at the same time.... it could be a goverment conspiracy u know, to dupe us.

Haha! Nice going, Crispy. I can just imagine Lois Lane grilling J'onn J'onnz about his status as an illegal alien clandestinely working for the police force. There'd be an awful lot of "I can't comment on that at this point in time" stuff.

This is a really good topic, actually. There must be lots of stuff in the DCU that has investigative reporters working overtime. Does Gotham City officially sanction Batman? Where do super-villains get their funding? Is it true that a US Air Force test pilot is an agent of an extra-terrestrial police force?

And is it true that the first 3 Flashes got their powers from a chemical bath? and what about Hourman? is this the anti drug message we want our hero's to pass on to kids?

theres the logical conclusion of the krytpon saga... an awful lot of junk falls down on earth from krypton, people, animals, cities, robots and childhood toys... you dont think superman could... i dunno just possibly... be the advance squad for the Kryptonian invasion of earth???

then theres the titans (once proud propaganda peddlers for the Peace Corps) and their involvement the Dr Arthur Swanson scandal. supposedly they disbanded, then later re grouped when Robin proved their innocence, but what of the stories suggesting that they worked as a plainclothes squad for a little while? and what of the rumors of drug abuse in the ranks of teen titans?

and one last thing that i allways found fishy, when supervillians took control of superheroes and ran amok, the heroes just allways said "oh we were mind controlled for a while but we are better now" and the public lapped it up!!! why they could just say that as an excuse for abusing the powers and status in public!

i mean whats more beliveable, that supervillians gained magical powers to control superheroes? or are the superheroes just getting drunk on power?

ive just got to add some more unnecesscary punucation ...!?!?!?!?,,?!

im done now

The criminal economy of Earth-1 is a great mystery.  How are criminals financed?  How do they develop super-villain style technologies?  Where do henchmen come from?  Is the U.S. or some other foreign government involved?  If so, why wouldn't the U.S. invade said country to apprehend these ne'er-do-wells?

And What power does Gordon have over Bruce Wayne that every time he flashes a light Bruce has to put on black tights and run over there?

Why on earth would they congregate in Metropolis and Gotham City, for that matter?  Are all the rich people moving to Metropolis because it's safe with Superman to protect them?

There were a couple of Silver Age Flash stories that dealt with the tailor who outfitted the Flash's Rogues Gallery.  How did he attract new clients?  Did he ever have normal pants to press?  Who fixed The Top's clothes when he tore his tights after this tailor was busted?

Is there an underground haberdasher that specializes in hero wear as well?  If so, does he know thier secret IDs or is he content with a IOU from Superman?

For that matter how does Superman pay for a date with Lois?  Where does he keep cash? Does he tip in diamonds he just made?

Now Klar, you know that he carries around his civvies as a compressed wafer in the pocket of his cape!  There's got to be a wallet or some bills in there!  In Maggin's Last Son he had a couple pieces of coal in there as well, for instant diamond use.

Don't know about super-villain costumers on Earth-One, but there was a super-hero costumer on Earth-Two whose name might be familiar! See this link: http://meltingpot.fortunecity.com/egypt/235/page22.html (http://meltingpot.fortunecity.com/egypt/235/page22.html)

Which begs the question, what happens to banknotes when they are compressed to wafer-size? Doesn't Superman feel silly paying for things with incredibly crumpled-up fivers?

this was actually dealt with in superfolks! as the main hero character goes and revists the old tailor who appernetly did lots of heroes and had special services for them. the idea of a superhero sitting down and fixing up his beaten up costume is darn silly!

Flash: HONESTLY green lantern this is the last time i team up with you, those interstellar aliens are just so rough with the material and not all of us have union-backed space tailors at our beck and call!

not to mention repeat washings of a costume.... i mean a hero in a faded costume due to washing just doesnt... inspire

and neal adams wrote himself into the DCU as a costume maker???
bizzare
