Title: Superman Villains
Post by: TELLE on July 26, 2005, 03:08:19 AM
Can anyone think of a Superman villain whose name begins with the letter Y?  Nothing in the Great Superman Book.

Trying to fill out the alphabet of villains:

I am the world's largest noob. I read what you said, and then went on about Superman villians that started with an L. Forgive me.

This is a tough one. But here is a stretch that I came up with, and it's all I have so far:

In Supergirl v2, which is canonical, Masters of the Universe stories ran in the back of the book for some time. Later, in an issue of DC Comics Presents, Superman met the Masters of the Universe.

There was a MOTU character named Yuckers, but I do not remember if the character ever appeared in these canonical stories, or whether he/she was a villian.

Ok, I have the solution, and this was indeed a tough one.

Create an article on Sinestro (if there isn't already one.) Then create an article entitled "Yellow Lantern" which says "see Sinestro."

Certainly Sinestro has appeared in many Superman comics...just find a reference and the problem is solved.

That's pretty ingenius --it just may come to that sort of slight of hand.  Does anyone ever call Sinestro "Yellow Lantern"?

I dug up references to the Yellow Mask, a villain from the Superman radio show, unfortunately not canon unless there was a 70s-80s story featuring the character.  You'd think that with all the kooky, one-off villains created in the the Bronze Age, there would be a Y villain.  I would even settle for a real name/secret identity.

Of course, there is also Bizarro Yellow Lantern from the 1980s Superman.  I wonder, he is a coward and not a hero, but is he actually a villain?

New Adv of Superboy No.35 "The Yellow Peri Peril" 1982

I don't know anything about her, not even if she was even a villain, but there you go :)

Loretta York (aka "The Yellow Peri") seemed more of a nuisance than an actual menace, though later her shady husband's "get rich quick" schemes got her in serious trouble with Superman.  See

and on the same webpage, I think we have our winner, since Yellow Peri seems more like a Bat-mite/Mxy/Bizarro type pest.

Yggadris
First Appearance: Mystery In Space #60 (June 1960)

Yggardis is a sentient, tentacled planet that scours other worlds for life forms to populate it -- which die within 24 hours of the transplantation. Originally thwarted by Adam Strange, Yggardis later joined (on a long-distance-basis) the Enchantress' team of Forgotten Villains, who battled the Forgotten Heroes and Superman.

I finally picked up the Forgotten Heroes/Forgotten Villains issues of DC COMICS PRESENTS and am shocked to find no entry on this list for Yggadris, The Living Planet. Somebody who knows the DCU better than me can maybe do an entry on this, er, being -- I'm assuming if he was a Forgotten Villain this wasn't his first appearance.

I checked my trusty WHOS WHO, but the only mention of Yggardis is in the Forgotten Villains entry. He is listed as a sorcerer who, along with Krakow, an 18th century Polish mystic, and the Enchantress, were the focus of the Forgotten Villains plans in their appearance in DC COMICS PRESENTS #77-78.
