Title: The Next President of the United States? ZOD!

Frankly we could do worse. At least Zod is direct and a man of action.

Too bad he'll never win since he was born on Krypton and isn't a native American citizen.  Is he even a citizen?

Like that stopped him before!

To be fair, Napoleon, Stalin, Lenin, Mussolini, Attila the Hun, and Hitler were also men of action.  It's important to note what kind of 'action' they stand for not just action in general.

But despite the tongue-in-cheek humour of that site, Zod seems to be a strangely compelling candidate.

It must be the comparison with the real President that makes him seem so. :p

I believe it was Arthur C. Clarke who said that anyone who wants to be President shouldn't be allowed to run.  That rings true to me.  Levitz's 30th century Earth had presidential candidates chosen by computer then voted upon by the public.  Thus, the candidates generally weren't seeking the post, were guaranteed to be qualified, and it essentially didn't matter much who the public chose since they were all qualified to begin with.  The current system, as Clarke posits, favours candidates good at winning elections aka popularity contests as opposed to any genuine ability to do the job.

Of course, that could be very bad if someone ended up getting control over the computers. "The candidates in this election are... Tharok, Tharok, Tharok, and Validus."

Very funny --strangely compelling indeed!

I thought of the politics-and-superheroes connection earlier when I was watching The Daily Show tonite (sometimes I get my U.S. news there first, I'm somewhat ashamed to say) and saw a bit of Browne's (the ex-FEMA honcho) testimony about why he dropped the ball during Katrina/New Orleans.  He did alot of finger pointing (not at himself, as John Stewart noted) and then said something like "I'm not some kind of superhero who can just swoop in at a moment's notice and make everything alright."

Zod material he ain't.  Let alone Kal-El.

Superman Through the Ages! has a long standing tradition of never endorsing any political candidates, presidential candidates included.

I think we may have to make an exception for 2008.

So what you're telling me is that you stood there and did nothing when Lex Luthor was running for president?  For shame!

Heck, I'd vote for Zod. I mean, I'm really sick and tired of voting for the LESSER of two evils.

And lounging around, hypnotized by ball-bearings, would make him a go-getter full of pep in his step by Washington standards.

I've always wondered what the human cloning legislation would be under a super-villain President.

I ran an on-line presidential poll pitting Lex Luthor against the real-world candidates.

Lex Lost.

An interesting fact that is often misrepresented is Hitler was elected to office.  He didn't seize power.

George Lucas was using the pattern of Napoleon, Hitler, and more recent American presidents as his basis for the Emperor Palpatine character in his Star Wars movies.  IIRC, his objective was to show how the people give themselves away to a dictator not how the dictator seizes power.

Zod seems to look attractive for the same reasons those previous dictators were elected.

Just a thought.
