Title: Who would make a good Supergirl?
Post by: KaraReeve on March 28, 2003, 08:18:10 PM
I just read somewhere on this site that there is a new supergirl movie in the works and that Alicia Silverstone is being considered for the part.  I HATED Alicia as Batgirl and I would not be able to stomach seeing her as Supergirl!  She was just great in Clueless, but it seems thats the only character she knows how to play.  Is that the kind of Supergirl you want?  I'd love to hear some good sugestions for Supergirl and discussions on the topic!  Maybe a poll could be run once there are some suggestions. :9:

This may sound crazy at first, but give it a chance:

Allison Mack.

That's not crazy.  I could really see her in the cute 70's costume with the little shorts!  Especially if one was going for a true Supergirl, as apposed the the very womanly Helen Slater.  Don't get me wrong I loved Helen Slater.   :D

Alica Silverstone??
  Don't think so maybe Superwoman
after all the character may have to pull off three roles instead of one Supergirl' Linda and kara of kandor also more in fitting with a young collegegirl.
would suiggest Sarah Michelle Gellar as she has already shown belivabilty in her role as the Slayer though not keen whether she can pull off Linda or Kara as her part as slayer she had no alter ego and not familiar with any other roles and yet young enough to puul off a college student as well

actually, it's one of my goals to play supergirl. really, I'm an actor. I got it into my head that I would really like to play her, and THEN I read that they were thinking of doing a supergirl project. it was pretty great.

so my first choice would be, umm, me.

Why should you play Supergirl? What can you bring to the role?

Why should you be chosen over Alicia Silverstone, Allison Mack, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Reese Witherspoon?

If we're going for a girl, Id like to suggest Michelle Trachtenberg who ws on Buffy.  She's already very beautiful, talented and still 17. Just picture her blonde and in the union pleats. :D

I doubt if Supergirl would be scared off at the first sign of a challenge.

Hmm.  Here's a thought.  What about the girl from American Beauty (the cheerleader) and American Pie (the nice choir girl)?

She's not that well known and she seems versatile in acting and appearance.  Someone who isn't that well know would bring a freshness to the role, like Christopher Reeve, Helen Slater, and Tom Welling all did.  She's played characters at completely different ends of the spectrum, so she could certainly be Kara, Supergirl and Linda.

Maybe a good choice to play supergirl is hilary duff? If this movie isnt made until 2005 or later she would probably be old enough

You gotta admit she is hot

I don't want to be mean at all  :halo: , since I certainly can see how you might make these suggestions, but I think that both of these actresses are still too "Nickelodeon" with their acting.  I can't quite put my finger on it, but there is a quality to most actors that came from Nickelodeon that feels forced and exessively cute.  I would like to see a Supergirl that is a little more dramatic and serious, like Smallville.  8)

think since Michelle Tractenburg was Harriet the spy tohought she was more of a real actreal actress at 7 or 8 adored in her in that however her role as Dawn in in Buffy the vampire slayer made little use of her natuaral talents beleived she could have dome a lot better there as well I rhink she well beyond a nickelodian type and by that judgement what about Melissa hart of Sabrina she came from Clarissa explains explains it all a nick series then Showtimes production of Sabrina the teenage witch and later with her mother owned their own productiob Co and ran the series Sabrinia as a series.
I don't call either of them  of nickeolodeon class but I do agree both are not what I'd consider the Supergirl type at all specially Melissa Joan Hart as she is no lomger a college aged pimple ridden teenager anymore

Hello organ-carriers,

I find it hard to even think of any actress (re)prising the role.  Helen Slater was just so good, classic and I could go on with all the positive adjectives on and on...
Too bad they couldn't afford a good story line that would've included...ME!  Fantasy and sci-fi can be real bad at times (Highlander II anyone?).  Supergirl needed some really classic villain to balance the cast.  This would actually been a good spot to plug in Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor in.  OR, like I said, any other real classic Supes villain so that fans could've seen the movie in a "Superman-family" type of way.  Actor Chris Reeve cancelled prestation didn't help either...
Imagine, Supergirl II!

As I recall it Supergirl had her own unique brand of villiany to contend with Most of whom were witches of one sort or another so that's why Selena was chosen as her Nemisis as magc plauges both Superman and Supergirl
Luthor Braniac even the bizzaro world villians would consider her less an equal to themselves
as for helen slater she's moved beyond her character both in age and expereince
She's no Chriustopher Reeve that will be diffucult to replace any way not even the curent Smallville actor cann attempt to fill his boots

Chelli, you are correct, correct and correct!

Supergirl did have her brand of villains BUT she also from time to time met with Superman's villain.  The best anology would be the rate at which Robin would meet villains a-la-Batman.  I guess that the authors decided that Supergirl needed her own plethora of characters but wanted to keep things in the "family" too!
Has for Helen being beyond Supergirl, true too.  What I mean though is that it will still be hard to find someone who does the job well.  Meaning: the bar is high - if someone is casted, she should at least be as good as Helen.  On a personal note aside: I wouldn't want to see some kind of Supergirl that looks like she was brought out from a Matrix movie.  Those darn Salkinds were good!  Like 'em, hate 'em, they got things done and good...  Supergirl was super but feminine, she simply popped out of a comic book page!

Maybe she should fight Brainiac, then fall in love with him and have many blond green skin babies... or not

I don't know if you're a good actress, but remember that except for talent you also need the looks to be a Supergirl. Post a pic of you.

I wasn't going to mention this, but now I think I should.

I saw Hilary Duff accidentally in the series Lizzie McGuire and I thought the whole thing was designed to make men fall in love with 13-14 year old girls. Lizzie changed her outfit at least once per episode and wore too much make up. In one episode they played part of the song "Rock 'n' Roll" by British 1970's Glam Rock star Gary Glitter, who was convicted of having under age sex with a 14 year old girl fan, so I think that made it even more obvious where they were coming from.

At a branch of Virgin Megastore (which sells CD's, DVD's, etc) they were selling a Lizzie McGuire compilation DVD with 4 episodes which was £6.99 cheaper than most other DVD's. This just so happens to be the price of the cheapest bottle of Vodka over here, so I think they were encouraging men to buy that DVD, then use the money they'd "saved" to buy a bottle of Vodka for a 13-14 year old girl.

I haven't seen "The Lizzie McGuire Movie", but I'm fairly sure that's equally pornographic, as in likely to corrupt and deprave, which doesn't mean it has to feature nudity.

What does anyone else think? I'm sure I'm not imagining all this.

She's 17 now, so old enough to have sex in most countries, but the damage has been done.
