Title: Well, looks like Kara gets a S.I.
Post by: SuperThinnker on June 20, 2006, 07:52:37 AM
S.I. here is--of course--a Sercet Identity. Here's the scoop--and I don't mean the ice cream!

---

SUPERGIRL #10

Written by Joe Kelly; Art by Ian Churchill and Norm Rapmund; Cover by Churchill

Supergirl takes on a new secret identity! Can you say "disaster"? She needs help — from one of the Outsiders?

----

And for those guys (and girls) that usually like to have their proof in their puddings, here's a link for you....

As I said over at Supergirl message at DC Comic's home page: Now, the big $10 zillion money question? What going to be Kara's sercet identity? Let the Linda Lees, Linda Danvers, Kara Kents, etc rain on our parade, but I'm starting to think it's going to start with "C"--like "Conners" or
"Clark"

With the glasses she looks just like Uma Thurman's secret ID in "My Super EX-Girl friend" film that's coming.

Wow clever combine X with Super-Girl and not get sued by anyone!

Klar Ken T5477, actually, there's a precedent -- the animated Kara In-Ze used glasses in her "Kara Kent" identity.  See:

And Kara attending a private school reminds me of the 1984 Supergirl movie. See:

I gorgot about Kara InZe TV disguise.

"She's ....uh...my cousin" sez CK.

Fixed your mistakes. I think that's makes even for your remarking on my odd name here. Hope you don't mind that, K.K.T. Can we get back on track, please?

I'm think either going to be one of the following: Carol Kent, Carol Danvers, or Carol Conners--one person on the DC thought it might been--but don't qoute me on that one--my family has habit of
making bad guesses.

I think we can safely assume it won't Carol Danvers, since that's the real name of Ms. Marvel/Binary over at Marvel comics. I wouldn't be surprised if she went with Carol Kent, since Clark is her only relative it makes sense that she'd want to retain some connection to him in her civilian identity.

A secret identity? Good idea.
Better than the tattoo, I'd say.

Actually i liked the tattoo. In my opinion, DC has been doing well to update their charectors for the times.

Are you serious?  They gave Kara a tattoo??  How - by putting kryptonite needles in the tattoo gun?

Kind of messes with the whole secret ID concept.  "Oh, I liked Supergirl's tattoo so much that I got the same one..."

lol. It's in issue 6 of the current series though. There's a picture of it at this link... http://www.supermanhomepage.com/comics/2006-post-crisis-reviews/c-review-2006.php?topic=supergirl6 but i'm not sure if i'm allowed to hot link to this site or if there are rules against it.

When i read the issue, i think she was in Kandar the bottle city so the tattoo gun could work there since it's kryptonian. However the diologe did suggest her skin was like tattooing steel.

I thought that tribal stuff went out in the '90s.  Sort of reminds me of a modern Bob Haney story.

Since the only one who knows that Supergirl has a tattoo is Supergirl, I don't think that will be a problem.

And yes, I realize that you were most likely joking...

No one is lamest enough to get a tribal tattoo now! I bet all those losers that got them when they were trendy are feeling like dummies, that is unless they haven't already laser removed them.

And what kind of needle and ink would even work on her anyway? :?

She and Powergirl are currently in Kandor. Red Sun enviroment and their powers are waining. So, probably standard needles and ink.

Doesn't make sense, because according to the plot summary, Kara still had all her superpowers.

And I still think her tattoo will last about as long as Superman's  1970s long-sideburns did - which was even less time than his mullet!

If I've understood this correctly (and I probably haven't), there are two Supergirls now, one with and one without a tattoo; one evil and one good; one in the future and one in the ghetto that passes for Kandor these days. So which one gets the secret identity, or are they going to merge into one individual again -- in which case, what happens to the tattoo?

DC is still using the solar battery explanation for Kryptonian powers, Post-IC.

Meaning that while Kara still has all of her abilities, those abilites get weaker and weaker in power due to the red sun enviroment and the lack of any yellow solar energy.

With her invunerability not being up to normal levels, she was able to get the tatoo.

Funny thing is, once she leaves Kandor and comes back under the rays of a yellow sun, the tatoo should fade due to her body's natural healing process.

After all, the current Superman has never sported any sort of scars from his many fights. Even the particurally bloody fights he had with Doomsday.

The two version of Kara were merged back together in issue 5.

Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) and Powergirl (Kara Zor-L) are the two operating as Nightwing and Flamebird in Kandor during this story arc.

Well, that makes sense. Or does it? Is it just me, or does it strike you as odd that people just don't understand what's happening any more if they haven't read every single blessed issue? I'm this close to giving up on DC's mainstream stuff because I'm just not prepared to read 8,000 comics to get the continuity straight.

DC wants you to buy every single comic of what they produce.   Joker's Last Laugh proved that, by shoving a Batman story into comics that had nothing to do with Batman.

As to what is going on with the two Supergirl titles, there was no need for this back pre-Crisis.    The titles just interacted however they wanted and didn't bother with continuity

With this Supergirl you don't have to. The only books you need to pick up are Superman/Batman: Supergirl trade, Supergirl: Power trade, and the latest issue. Though, she is also appearing in the LOSH title.

This isn't like the Linda Danvers Supergirl (who I happened to like) where you had to know the backstory of the Matrix Supergirl along with picking up every title of that series to understand what was going on.

The backstory of this Supergirl is just as simple as that of the Pre-Crisis Supergirl.
