Testing...

Title: Looks good

Thanks for the test posting, Super Monkey!

It looks like everything is working OK.

We've also just enabled "Avatar" icons (ie, the picture that shows up under your name).  You can link to a picture anywhere on the internet by entering its URL in your profile.  We hope to get uploading working soon, too, so that you'll be able to upload your icon if you'd rather.

You shouldn't have much of a problem.  phpbb is pretty user friendly :)  Been using it for a bit myself on my site :)

Just don't make the mistake I made and put TOO many avatars up!  I went though and finally cleaned out over two thousand of them :)
(I just put packets in place with out even bothering to look how many each held :) )

I managed to get the Avatars working, including user uploadable ones (I think).  Do you have any "Super" theme Avatars?

I also added a couple of different styles.

Next up is ranking :-)

I have a few...but none are 80x80  (I had to scale down the one I am using for this board)

personally, I would like to use this one :) http://www.supergirl.nu/continuumboard.supergirl.nu/images/avatars/gallery/Continuum/Monelav.gif

here are some others http://www.supergirl.nu/continuumboard.supergirl.nu/images/avatars/gallery/Continuum/shield.gif

I've uploaded 3 Supergirl avatars to the avatar gallery. If any one is interested. The one that I am currently using and two others.

I'll see if I can create a few more from the animated pics I've got.

Hey, those look great!  I hope you've no objection - I installed them in the public Avatar gallery. :!:

I'm still learning the ropes with phpBB, but it looks like individual users can only have one uploaded Avatar at a time - since there's currently only one (your Supergirl icon) instead of three in the upload directory.  But for anyone who may be inspired to make some public-use icons, send them this way and I'll install them. :-)

I've also installed a Public Pack (with 600 Avatars).  Most of the pictures are anime looking, but there are a couple of super-hero Avatars if you look around for them.

I bumped the maximum size from 80x80 up to 86x86 so that they can be the same width as the "S-Shield" rank insignia that I came up with...  8)

BTW, if anyone is unsulted by "Superman Fan in training," let me know and I'll change it to something else...

Actually, I came up with something else on my own :-)

I wouldn't say I'm *insulted* exactly by "Superman Fan in Training," but it wouldn't be my first choice.  I thought maybe we'd go "up in the ratings" as the number of our posts increased.  I see I'm already "Jimmy Olsen Fan Club."   :D

If we are allowed to pick our own honorifics, I'd like to have "Defender of Kandor." Kind of goes with my user name.

That's exactly the way it works.  I changed "Superman Fan in training" to "Jimmy Olsen Fan Club" - I thought it was a bit more appropriate.  That's what I was referring to when I wrote that "I came up with something else."

I'd prefer to keep the automated ranking system.  I think it's a lot of fun on other boards that I've seen, and if everyone could just pick their own rank, it would take away the whole purpose.

But a pretty good case could be made for giving you special status.  After all, you've been with Superman Through the Ages! almost since the beginning and have helped out a lot with it.  You've also contributed a fantastic Superman website (http://nightwing.supermanfan.net) and countless excellent posts  to the old forum (http://forum.superman.nu/) and to the kal-l mailing list (http://superman.nu/a/kal-l/) since its inception, lo those many ages ago.

So - congratulations and I trust that you'll continue in your duties as defender! :-)

You say the sweetest things.  :D

Thanks for the special recognition, and yes I promise to keep the bottle safe from ne'er-do-wells.  Plus I have another contribution for the site that I'll mail you off-line (that way, if you don't like it, I won't be embarassed!)

I don't know what your rating system is going to look like, but here's some fun ideas beyond "Jimmy Olsen Fan Club":

- Daily Planet Staffer
- Legion of Substitute Heroes
- Superman Emergency Squad
- Kryptonian Science Council
- Supermen of America
- Justice Leaguer

Title: New Avatars
Post by: Great Rao on January 30, 2003, 10:13:01 AM
What nightwing didn't want to mention is that he sent me some more Avatars!  These look great and I've installed them as well.  Anyone can see them  by going to their Profile page and pressing the "Show Gallery" button in the Avatar section at the bottom.

There's also a drop-down menu to see the different installed packages.

Thanks!

how can i delete messages?

It used to be that you could delete your own posts, but I disabled the feature because people were complaining that their posts were being deleted.  I don't know if they were being deleted due to user error (ie, accidently hitting the 'delete' button) or due to a glitch in the forum, but either way, it hasn't happened since.

Right now the only way to delete a message is to either ask me or to ask Super Monkey (the moderator) to delete it for you.
