Superman flexes high-def muscle Returns arrives on both formats plus two standard-def versions By Samantha Clark 9/21/2006 The two-disc edition will be priced at $34.99. SEPT. 21 | The ultimate peacekeeper, Superman is staying neutral in the high-definition format war. On Nov. 28, the studio will release its $197 million-grossing Superman Returns as an HD DVD Combo disc (which has HD DVD on one side of the disc and standard-def on the other) priced at $39.99 and on Blu-ray Disc with a list price of $34.99. On standard-def, Superman Returns will be available in two versions: a single-disc for $28.98 that contains just the movie and a two-disc special edition priced at $34.99 that offers more than three hours of extras. Prebook is Oct. 17. The two-disc special edition will include 10 deleted scenes and four featurettes about various aspects of the production, including the filmmaker’s resurrection of Marlon Brando as Jor-El. Warner has partnered with Papa Johns Pizza, Duracell and PerfectMatch.com for the DVD releases. Warner's Ultimate box set has 14 discs. The studio also is delivering the Superman Ultimate Collector’s Edition the same day. Prebook is Oct. 24. The 14-disc set, priced at $99.92, contains Superman Returns: Special Edition, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, Superman: The Movie Four-Disc Special Edition, Superman II Two-Disc Special Edition and Superman III and IV Deluxe Editions. The set also offers 20 hours of extra content, including the documentaries You Will Believe: The Cinematic Saga of Superman and Look Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman and Returns director Bryan Singer’s video journal. The Ultimate box will be encased in a keepsake tin and includes a reproduction of the Superman comic book issue No. 7, a Superman overview booklet and a mail-in offer for five Superman theatrical movie posters.
