Geoff Johns sounds good until you read his work. While, I appreciate Johns' story elements and apparent regard for things past. I loath the implementation of said ideas. At least he's practical, " The Phantom Zone villains were kind of goofy in the comics before the movies came out, and the comics never capitalized on Zod...." (credit Wizard 183)

Bizarro was silly too before Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? Now, Bizarro will break one kid's arm and throw a bus on another (although the latter was Kryptonian) because nothing reads like child endangerment.  :P

This is as good a place as any to mention the fact that I love the fact that Bizarro's last words were: "Hello, Superman. Hello."

It wasn't out of character since back on the 1960's they actually welcome Blue K, and loved when they started to fell pain and die! Those wacky Bizarros!

Geoff Johns is like Mark Waid in that in interviews they say all the right things, but when you actually read the stories, it is not that good. Sorry, guys.

Personally I like Kurt and Grant, who say lots of things in interviews that make you go "oh no, this can't be good", but when you actually read the stories, they are great! Sorry, Guys.

I just got this issue in the mail today and thought it was great.  "Christopher Kent" is the perfect name for the kid  - I assume the name is an homage to Christopher Reeve - and I love the glasses on him.  The fact that Zod, Non, and Ursa are each wearing the first Kryptonian letter of their name on their chest is the perfect touch - right out of the movies, and a great nod to all those Silver Age costumes.  I wonder if that's how everyone on Krypton was able to tell each other apart, by the letter on their chest.  Sort of like that mythical third-world village where everyone walks around with photos of themselves on their foreheads so that other people can tell who they are.  ;D

I really appreciate the fact that Geoff Johns went back and read every Phantom Zone story before working on this arc.  It's shaping up to be a pretty good story and I hope that Chris sticks around for a while.
