They're all Cylons.

Seriously, are they all different people, or just different costumes?

They're all Cylons.

And they have a plan.  :D

From Left to Right

Peter David "Silver Age" Supergirl, Matrix Supergirl , Bronze Age Supergirl, Current Supergirl, Peter David Supergirl, Power Girl, Crisis Supergirl.

Ed Benes' artwork  ???

wrong...

The answer is this:

lower left side, with the shorter hair is the Magical Super-Girl from the 1958
Above her is the Iron Age Matrix Supergirl
The hot pants one is of course the Bronze Age Supergirl from the 1970's (Earth-1 Superman's cousin)
The one upfront is the current Mercury Age Supergirl
The one in the White shirt is Peter David's Supergirl
Behind her is Powergirl (Earth-2 Superman's cousin)
In the far right is of course, is the pre-crisis Supergirl from the mid-1980's in her Crisis uniform.

LOL!

I thought it was too easy, sadly they missed the Golden Age Supergirl, but everyone always forgets her.

This is basically what I thought, and got Kara Zor-El x4 (silver age, bronze age, crisis, and post-IC), Power Chest, Matrix Supergirl (either x1 or x2, depending on how you squint at her merger to PAD Supergirl), and perhaps Kara In-Ze.  I knew about the other two pre-Kara Supergirls, but I didn't think that was where Benes was going here.  And I was all prepared to make a snark comment about how the Superman was really Supergirl disguised as a guy (Matrix Supergirl x3), but Easter took me over.

I recall a discussion on the DC Message Boards when this pic first surfaced.  Allegedly, the seated Supergirl on the left was supposed to be original Kara Zor-El.  When I pointed out that she should be wearing a blue skirt, the original poster admitted that the person who commissioned the group shot specifically requested that color.  Oh, well -- there were coloring mistakes back in the old Action Comics days, and when Kara appeared in Peter David's "Many Happy Returns" arc her skirt was also red (this was corrected in the trade paperback).

There's also a couple inaccuracies on Matrix (no gold on boot trim), hotpants Kara (wrong belt design) and headband Kara (no v-notch on boots).  But Ed Benes probably followed the client's wishes on that, too.  (Yes, these are VERY insignificant nitpicks, but as an historic miniature painter and model builder I'm very aware of uniform design details.)

Actually, even before I saw this picture, I've toyed with the idea of portraying EVERY Super-Girl, Supergirl, Superwoman, etc. in a crystaline Fortress of Solitude, with alternate costumes reflected in the crystal facets.  That way, the same Kara Zor-El won't appear multiple times like she does in Ed's picture, which would have violated the old time travel rule about meeting past/future selves.

The center panel of "Many, MANY Happy Returns" would have Kara in her Crisis costume with an arm around PAD's Linda Danvers.  Linda's eyes are glistening from happiness from not only being reunited with Kara, but also with her beaming daughter Ariella.  Posing alongside the central trio are Power Girl, Matrix and the current Kara.

Off on the sides and in the background would be Supergirl artifacts -- the original purple and green rocket, Power Girl's Symbioship, the new Kara spaceship, a hotpants Kara statue, various depictions of Argo City, Daily Planet headlines, Supergirl and Linda Danvers robots, etc.  Examining these exhibits and comparing notes would be the other Supergirls -- Super-Girl showing off her magic totem to Lucy Regent, Myrtle Pepper and Liandly of Rolez; Superwomen Kristen Wells, Luma Lynai, Lois Lane, Carol Zorelle, Laurel Kent (Superman/Batman #23) and the "Turnabout Trap" Superwoman fending off the Crime Syndicate party-crashers (both pre-crisis Earth-3 and post-crisis Qwaad Superwomen) plus Satan Girl and a couple Bizarro Supergirls; Planet Krypton Supergirl waitress Rose D'angelo serving burgers and shakes to a group of little Supergirls (including Lisa Kent, Laney Kent and Maureen Reynolds with her 1940 World's Fair trophy) as they're watching the animated Kara In-Ze on TV.

Also enjoying the gathering would be Lea Lindy, Laura Clark, Laurel Kent, Professor Drake's clone, Helen Slater (with Omegahedron), the "Superman vs. Aliens" Kara, The "Kingdom Come" Legion Supergirl (though it's said that was supposed to be Matrix), Kara Dox (aka "XTC"), the "Elseworlds Finest" Supergirl, the "Hyper-Tension!" Supergrrl, Louise-L, Cir-El, the "Superman/Batman:  Generations" Supergirls (Kara, Lois and Lara Kent), the "Superman: Secret Identity" Supertwins Carol and Jane Kent, etc.

And of course Streaky and Comet would be there, too.  ;-)

You also forgot the original Supergirl:

Super Monkey, I definitely did NOT forget Lucy Regent, ESPECIALLY after your earlier comment.  Check again:

"Examining these exhibits and comparing notes would be the other Supergirls -- Super-Girl showing off her magic totem to Lucy Regent, Myrtle Pepper and Liandly of Rolez..."

However, looking over my list, I did overlook Lana Lang as an Imaginary Story "Super-Sister", Laura Kent from Superman Family #200, the Earth-D Kara, Supermaid Lola Kent Olsen (Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #117) and Lara Lane-Kent from Adventures of Superman #638.

And should I also include Brainiac 5’s Supergirl Lovebot?   ;)

What about Superlass?

Superlass?  She's there too:

...Planet Krypton Supergirl waitress Rose D'angelo serving burgers and shakes to a group of little Supergirls (including Lisa Kent, Laney Kent and Maureen Reynolds with her 1940 World's Fair trophy) as they're watching the animated Kara In-Ze on TV...

I liked Lisa Kent with her cute ponytail and "Swinging Sixties" vocabulary -- "You're really not one of the Love People, are you?" she asked a gunman before knocking him out.   ;)

"Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane #91" (April 1969) was one of the earliest comic books I recall reading, and I still have that copy.  I remember experiencing a vague feeling of discontent after reading the tragic "Love is Blind!", even if I understood that this was simply an "Imaginary Story".  Today I fully recognize this tale as a pretty blatant "Beauty and the Beast"-style tearjerker, but I still feel for little Lisa (she was only 13, one of the youngest active "Supergirls").  I'm sure in some unrecorded Hypertime Superlass managed to find the cure for Daddy's affliction, but it would be nice to see her again in an Elseworlds -- can you imagine her visiting "Aunty Kara" or tagging along with the original Teen Titans?   ;)
