In the Middle East, Superman is Nabil Fawzi, not Clark Kent.

Owned by an Arabic oil company? Does DC have some petrolium holdings we don't know about?

Arabic reads from right to left.  So just as most Japanese Manga is often mirror-imaged when it's translated into English, these Superman and Batman comics were mirror-imaged when they were translated into Arabic.  That way the direction of the action matches the direction in which the language is read.  The S symbol got flipped along with everything else.

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's... Basil Fawlty?

The distinction between "Aramco" and the Saudi government is murky at best.  Calling it "an Arabic oil company" doesn't begin to capture its scope.  There's not much in the way of western outreach that doesn't involve Aramco...  including Superman, it seems.  :)
