I heard about this on cbc radio.  great that technology has finally made it easy for lazy scientists to aggregate all this info and then check it over at their leisure.  Still, a big project that brings us a little bit closer to Star Trek.

There seems to be no escape for me from the ghost of Carl Linnaeus, whose 300th anniversary is mentioned in the article: I've spent much of the year so far translating all sorts of material for the festivities and am now thoroughly sick of all mention of taxonomy. Researching all this stuff has been a nightmare: did you know that there is a plant called the Weeping Bottlebrush? The Lipstick plant? Well, if they want their Encyclopedia of Life translated, they can get some other sap.
