Title: The Third Kryptonian *speculation including new solicit info*
Post by: BMK! on August 24, 2007, 11:08:40 AM
It seems to me that based upon the silhouette of the "Third Kryptonian" on the cover of the upcoming Superman #670, it looks like a certain female that was shown in Action Comics #850...when Brianiac 5's chronexus ruptures, showing glimpses of what may be future events. The page I'm referring to shows what seems to be a Kryptonian city, with a volcano in the background. There are, what appears to be, Kryptonians on the ground and in the sky. Supergirl is standing amongst the Kryptonians, while Superman hovers, uttering, "It's...It's beautiful...I can barely believe it..."
One of the women (with a face looking similar to a young Dr. McCoy from Star Trek), with short hair (and holding a stogie?) is wearing the same type of vest jacket as suggested by the silhouette drawing on the cover of Superman #670.

What's also interesting can be found in the solicits and images themselves...

Superman #670 talks about "Revelations about Krypton's past, it's survivors..."? "...a centuries-spanning story of interstellar adventure and survival"? On the cover, we see multiple ships fleeing Krypton.

Meanwhile, Superman Annual talks about how Superman & Co. "...makes a desperate last stand against a deadly threat to every Kryptonian in the universe!" Every Kryptonian in the universe? Also, "...a shattering turning point for a key concept in the Superman mythos"?

Obviously, Superman is not alone since he has the likes of Supergirl, Chris Kent, Krypto, and alternate Kryptonian Power Girl...but are we now subject to witnessing the birth (or rebirth) of the New Krypton concept, where truly the Kryptonian race lives on? And, what would this mean for Superman?

That's an intriguing possibility.  When I first saw the cigar-toting woman in question, I thought she was Maggie Sawyer.  Second from the right, between Superman and (presumably) Lois:

That also looks like it could be Ma Kent next to Supergirl wearing the 'S'.

Which one is Lois? And which one is Ma Kent? I can't tell who's who these days. If Superman wasn't wearing a super suit I couldn't tell him apart as well.

Also why does everyone keep drawing Superman as if he were Asian?

Here's my reading of it, from left to right:

Pa Kent (Looks like the Pa Kent from Birthright, but I could be wrong.)

Ma Kent (Extrapolating from the above being Pa, I figured this was Ma.  But on 2nd inspection, she looks too young and her hair too long.  Plus she's got the 'S'.  Now I'm thinking she's a previously unknown Kryptonian.)

Supergirl (99.9 % certain about this one.)

   Superman

Maggie Sawyer (Still looks to me like an Earthwoman.  I'm guessing that Kryptonians don't smoke.  I seem to recall that Maggie does, but I'm not sure.)

Lois Lane (The only brunette in the bunch.  I'll go with 90% certainty here)

Yeah, I noticed that Asian look in the generic Superman ad recently

What's with that indeed?

What grabbed my attention immediately about the solicits is they mention "Krypton's enemies." Hmmm...?

It it possible Subjekt 17 ties into all this somehow, and possibly is the one hunting the Kryptonians? In one issue, we see Subjekt-17 survived their inconclusive battle and was hiding out in Tibet.

It may be that Subjekt-17, who is from a Krypton-type planet, may have some sort of connection to Krypton we don't know about.

Upon further inspection, it seems that the two standing next to Supergirl are her parents, as they match the couple shown on the page previous to the one we're discussing (in Action Comics #850), where Supergirl exclaims, "Dad! Mom! You're alive!". I agree with you that the other women looks like Lois and, as you said, possibly Maggie Sawyer.

Or, since the Auctioneer is involved, one might make the guess that Amalak will be along for the ride. After all, he was seen muttering something about Kryptonians in the Back to Action arc by Kurt and Fabian.

Ya didn't Kurt say he was going to bring back Amalak???

If the 3rd kryptonian story is just about a 3rd kryptonian that wouldnt be that interesting. Now if they bring back krypton. Thats something I'd run out to get.

I believe so, it's somewhere in that 100+ page "Question for Kurt" thread on Comicbloc.

i'm reall guessing on this by the way DC is bringing back the "Supergirl from Krypton" thing....
what ever version it is,  based on the info from the cover so far.

it COULD be a new version of the Kristin Wells/Superwoman

(they already had three, see the link below)

http://superman.nu/a/encyc/sw.php

or it could be a new version of Linda Danvers ....(then again, looking at the silhouette, she doesn't have spiky hair and a cut-off jacket)  I remember, a while back, Dan Didio said that she wasn't retconned out....

A bit of speculation on my part.

The Third Kryptonian is from one of the 52 Earths, and is a female version of Superman.

I thought the same thing but Power Girl is not one of the Kryptonians. As mentioned above, she's probably just an update on Superwoman.... I was really hoping for Beppo... Maybe, he'll show up on New Earth-1.

How about a female version of SuperBOY?

Here's what I posted on another message board regarding the same question:

---------------------------

On another thread covering this very same question, one poster suggested it was Supergrrrl , who appeared in the "Hyper-Tension!" arc of Superboy (Issues #60-65). This could be a real possibility for a couple reasons.

First, Supergrrrl comes from the Elseworld's Finest: Supergirl and Batgirl universe. This alternate Earth has proven popular with fans (DC Direct made figures of both Kara and Babs), and it's likely to be one of the 52.

At the conclusion of "Hyper-Tension!", all the Superboys were returned to their native worlds. But it's certainly possible that some got sidetracked, and there was only one female "Superboy". Perhaps Supergrrrl's uniqueness caused problems on the way home? After all, she's not a clone of Kal-El (or a younger Kal-El), but a clone of Kara Zor-El...

Oh, dear -- I just realized this. We already have TWO Karas (Power Girl and the new Supergirl). Add the clone of an Elseworld's Kara Zor-El, and we'll have THREE counterparts of the SAME person inhabiting ONE universe! No wonder the Third Kryptonian has got to go!  :o

You can see Supergrrrl's debut here:

http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/2703079.html

(Frankly, she STILL looks better in that jacket than Kon-El ever did!)   ;)

If Superman, Supergirl, Chris Kent and Krypto all come from Krypton, how is it that this new character is referred to as the third Kryptonian?

Chris Kent and Zoners were in the Phantom Zone during the Auctioneer's arc. I'm not sure how Krypto fits. Perhaps, he isn't from New Earth or maybe not on New Earth at the time.  ???

I was thinking more along the lines that this parallel world version of Superman is more of a genetic match for Superman than Power Girl.  Anyway, if taken literally this would mean it's a Kryptonian from the "New Earth" Universe.

I know Smallville isn't too big around these parts but they're also doing a Third Kryptonian storyline. Clark & Kara found a 300 yr. Kryptonian artifact that Kara revealed was a SOS. So there's another Kryptonian out there in the Smallville universe. Maybe Kristin Wells.......
