The news is that Hugh Jackman has been cast as George Reeves in the upcoming murder mystery biopic, Truth, Justice & the American Way.

He did an excellent job as Wolverine in X-Men, this movie just keeps getting better and better  8)

Jackman is a surprising choice but not a disappointing one.  I'm more anxious to see it now.   :)  :s:

I would have preferred someone more Superman-ish.  And having someone who can capture Reeves' smile and charm is absolutely essential.

I think they only chose Hugh Jackman because of his big name appeal.

But Brendan Fraser would have been completely perfect as Reeves and had the big name.

Kyle MacLachlan was an excellent choice and I was rooting for him.  I know that he had been lobbying for the role and I think he was even cast by the Polish brothers before they got thrown off the project.

I've never seen MacLachan show the personality to be Reeves though Fraser would have been a good choice, in fact I'd still vote for him as Superman in the upcoming movies over the other choices. I think Jackman will do fine.

He seems better to just stick with Wolverine.

Gee if he plays George Reeves and wears a Superman costume does that mean on the various DC messages boards we will see such classic threads such as Wolverine or Superman which Hugh Jackson character would kick the others butt?

If they show him in a Superman costume, will it be a retro 1950's George Reeves looking costume, or will it be a more modern one, like from the movie or Lois and Clark?  A retro costume would be more accurate, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if they used one of the newer designs.

I hope they use the George Reeves design.  It wouldn't be logical not to.   :s:

I am not entirely dissapointed by the choice of Jackmen; however, I felt that Kyle MacLachlan was more suited for the role. From the test shots, or audition footage, I've seen floating about, MacLachlan seemed to be the top choice for the role.  (Even though I think MacLachlan was a horrible Paul Atredis.)

Unfortunatly, Hollywood does not work on who is the best choice for the role and Jackman is somewhat a "hot property" nowadays.  I am, however, willing to give him a chance.

Very interesting.  The word in the press is that Miramax was objecting to Kyle MacLachlan because of his audition performance.  They claim it wasn't good enough.

I like him.  Remember all the objection to Michael Keaton as Batman?  But the first Batman movie turned out well.

Hollywood has a long tradition of preferring "hot" to "appropriate".  I still remember when they cast Donald O'Connor as Buster Keaton in "The Buster Keaton Story."  A very different type, but a hot name at the time.  I thought it worked.

the Superman doesn't look too bad on a man like the Wolverine suit does so I'm thinking they will stick with the original.

Really. I hadn't read the press on that. But, then again, my taste could be different than the execs at Miramax.

Agreed. I didn't object to Keaton. In fact, he was the best Batman there ever was.

Why do I get the feeling that this superman movie will be better than that other over budgeted mess.

Didn't Hugh Jackman appear as Superman on a SNL sketch when he hosted or have I been downing too much Kandorian brandy?

Actually Im a little slow on the upatake here-- Hugh is OUT thanks to Van Helsing.
