Title: Panic In the Sky
Post by: nightwing on March 10, 2004, 10:09:43 AM
If anyone's interested, I've made a "comic book" out of screen captures from the episode "Panic In the Sky."

It's here: http://nightwing.supermanfan.net/adventures/panic/panic_in_the_sky.htm

Hope you enjoy it!

cool

I just read it but how come the people didnt recognise superman i mean he didnt have his glasses on!
Either he has some power to hide his identity without glasses or the people are really stupid

Short answer: the people are really stupid. :-)

"He must be the luckiest guy who ever lived...not a scratch!"
"Clark's missing, too..."
"Oh, just knock me on the head sometime and you'll find out..."

Gotta love it.

Of course in the real world it would go like this:

"Sure I'll try to find Superman, chief.  Do you know what he looks like?"
"Yes, he looks exactly like you, except for the glasses!  Say, hold on a minute..."

Brainiac44, you're right, the shows are in the works for DVD.  Latest word is that some of the film elements are in such bad shape that restoration will take a while.  That means we may not get 'em til next year at the earliest, but it's nice to know they're taking the time to do a good job!

In the comics they eventually wrote a story which explained that the special lenses in Clark's glasses amplified his hypnotic vision, which, Clark discovered, was always "on" even when he wasn't trying to hypnotize someone, but at an extremely low level.  Normally it wouldn't have any effect on anyone.  But with the special Kryptonian lenses, it acted as an amplifier, and this made people see Clark Kent as looking slightly different than Superman.
The explanation for how people still saw Clark as different even during times when Superman temporarily lost his powers was that the effect lingered as long as Clark wore his glasses.
It was pure nonsense, but an attempt to explain why people couldn't tell it was the same man.  Originally the idea was that Clark and Superman did look incredibly alike, but because their personalities were so different most people saw them as being different men.

Well, it was an attempt to try to explain it all away.

Some things are better off left unexplained.
