Title: "The 'Superman' from Another Planet"
Post by: Glammazon on May 25, 2004, 11:35:43 PM
One story I would really like to see posted on this site is one from 1960 called "The 'Superman' from Another Planet" where a double of Superman called Hyperman comes to Earth to ask Superman to preserve his double identity.  Having learned from his super-univac that Hyperman is dying of zoronite poisoning, Superman instead betrays Hyperman's dual identity to the people of Hyperman's planet to prevent him from learning that he is about to lose his own super-powers due to the zoronite poisining.  From what I've read in THE GREAT SUPERMAN BOOK, the tale is a real corker and is the best of the three 'Pseudo-Superman' stories (the other two involved heroes named Regor and Tharka.  Tharka loses her powers in Earth's atmosphere, and superman helps her to apprehend a criminal gang.  Regor technically has no super-powers - he is the son of a scientist from Earth whose so-called 'powers' are due to the physical differences between him and the natives of his adopted planet).

Thank you for showing me that page.  I only wish I could read the rest of that story, which is actually titled "The 'Superman' from Outer Space."

I wonder if Superman told Hyperman's wife Lyla the truth about his death -that is, that he was dying of zoronite poisoning.
