I recently started a online petition to get a director's cut of Superman IV: the quest for peace finally released on DVD. The petition is over at the HomeTheatreForum. You can sign it by going to
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=208447
The petition asks for Warners to release the 134 minute cut, adding an extra 45 minutes to the film, including an action sequence that cost $5 million to shoot! The petition has recieved over 2000 views and many people have left good comments of support.

Please leave your full name and a brief comment of support.

My opinion of Superman IV:
It is my view after studying the production Superman Iv and the film itself, that it is a very good entry in the superman series. I believe that it had the potential to become the greatest of the Superman movies, however there was a number of factors to why it disappeared seemingly without trace when released. Firstly the budget was cut and the filmmakers wanted to make a cheap film, therefore the look of the film, in terms of special effects became poor. Secondly Warner Brothers after the film had a bad test screening called for drastic cuts to be made. Many scenes that would explain why things happened, and important scenes of action, romance and witty dialogue were removed. The film therefore seems like what it is, an edited version of a much larger film.

The final factor that sealed the fate of the film was that its advertising campaign was almost non existent, shown by the fact that they never even released the films soundtrack. In conclusion the film we saw in 1987 was a poor version of a great film, and if the footage that was cut out was put back in, it would probably become the best of the Superman films, second only to the original Superman film. This accompanied with improved special effects would correct the past mistakes of the filmmakers and we would for the very first time see an epic version of the cannibalised film we originally saw. I hope that one day we get to see the film as it was originally envisaged by the filmmakers, but even if we do not get to see it as it was meant to be it should always be a high point of the series, as it has its heart in the right place, unlike superman III which followed a more comic approach.

Note: I attempted to have a petition for this film a while back, but it was abandoned due to techinical problems, I'm glad to say that those problems have been resolved, so if you did sign the old one then please take a few minutes of your time to sign the new one. We got a fair amount of support last time so I think its a just cause. In order to post at the home theatre forum you must register, this only takes a few minutes, its not me trying to be awkward, but its for security, to stop time wasters who make abusive posts, doesn't happen much, but sadly it does happen. Thank You.
