Here's a Golden Age Classic,

"The BIRTH of SUPERBOY!"

from 1945's More Fun Comics #101.

It's always interesting to see how different the details become in versions of the origin story, while the basics stay (mostly) the same. This version of Krypton looks so odd today.

But...

"I guess something happened just for a minute to give me super-strength"???

Good thing Clark got more creative with his excuses later!

I wonder if it's just a coincidence that Clark as a young boy was drawn so much like Billy Batson in that story. Maybe National Comics wanted to beef up the "evidence" in its lawsuit over Captain Marvel?

I love the Art Deco versions of Krypton more than any other.

The young Clark idea was paid homage to in the Incredibles --young Dash incredible has to come in second at track and field.  Fun movie, fun comic!

I especially loved the Flash-Gordon-like Kryptonian headgear in this story.  Shades of Birthright.  (And Man of Steel too, I suppose, even though Byrne claimed he was trying to get away from the Flash Gordon look.)

Actually, I think the Kryptonian headgear in this Superboy story is taken from Buck Rogers.  Here's the Flash Gordon headpiece (on the right) vs. the Buck Rogers headpiece which really seems to be just like an early flight hat.  The key difference is that with the Birthright/Flash Gordon headpiece, the top of the hair waves out in a dramatic fashion, whereas in the Superboy/Buck Rogers headpiece, the top of the head is covered.

Either way, they're both cool.  Cool
