I remember a previous discussion of this somewhere that questioned the "canonical" nature of these dates.  More knowledeable fans seemed to take issue with some of the dates, listing some as arbitary or just plain made up with out reference to the comics, as I recall.  Anyone know if these dates are based on the comics?

Well, according to my research, the ones for Superman and Clark Kent are canonical, at least. Superman's birthday of February 29th was established in "The Man Who Wrote Superman's Obituary" (ACTION COMICS No. 429, Nov. 1973). Clark Kent's "birthday" of June 18th ... and the date of Kal-El's arrival on Earth ... was estasblished in "Unhappy Birthday to You" (SUPERMAN No. 263, Apr. 1973).
