Towbee's homeworld and the galactic cultural melting pot of the book is called Oric.

Spell 'Oric' backwards you get 'Ciro'.

Make the 'C' hard instead of soft and it's pronounced KI-ro, or Cairo.

Cairo was a cultural melting pot on Earth during WW2 per movies like Casablanca.

I wonder if Maggin's Oric was intended to be the galactic equivalent of Earth's Cairo?

I don't think the backwards name is an accident.  It's only missing the 'A' to make it Cairo backwards.
