LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES ARCHIVES VOL. 12

Written by Cary Bates, Jim Shooter and Paul Levitz; Art by Mike Grell, Ric Estrada, Michael Nasser and others; Cover by Grell

By the mid-1970s, owing to the successful efforts of its new creative teams, the Legion of Super-Heroes began to share equal billing with its iconic member, Superboy. The new, racier Legion's popularity skyrocketed, setting the stage for more 30th century classics to come. This volume celebrates that legendary era of Legion history with 16 classic stories from SUPERBOY AND THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #213-223 and KARATE KID #1, written by Cary Bates, Jim Shooter and Paul Levitz, with art by Mike Grell, Ric Estrada, Michael Nasser and others, and a cover by Grell. In addition, long-time Legion fan Mike Flynn contributes an introduction.

In keeping with the Legion's history of change, editor Murray Boltinoff shuffled the creative teams, bringing in an old hand as well as new, soon-to-be favorites. Newcomer Mike Grell was given the tough task of filling Dave Cockrum's shoes for SUPERBOY AND THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES, drawing one of comics' most intricate and popular super-teams. Grell rose to the challenge and quickly made a name for himself, bringing edge-of-your-seat storytelling to the Legion and, along with Bates, Shooter, Levitz, Estrada and Nasser, created one of the Legion's most memorable periods.

In addition to reprinting KARATE KID #1, the spin-off book spawned by the Legion's popularity during this sera, this volume also features many cornerstone foes of Legion lore, including The Fatal Five, Tyroc, the Miracle Machine, the Time Trapper, and more! For those familiar with this classic period, enjoy revisiting the moment. For those discovering the Legion of Super-Heroes for the first time, enjoy the ride!

Careful when you say "DC has completed the Legion of Super-Heroes Archives".  That is not the case.

Paul Levitz himself said at the Baltimore Comic-Con last September (in response to a question about volume 13) that "It is coming", explaining that they were deliberately slowing them down a little.

I hope so, but I read that they were not going to do anymore.

I wonder if the LSH archive series is eventually going to include all the Legion material up through Crisis, the death of Superboy, the Bierbaums, Legionnaires, and all the other reboots up to the current one.

That would certainly make for quite a run!

But if not, then what is the stopping point going to be?

I hope they continue to publish them.  It's nice to have all the issues in collection.
I don't know about the reboots.  The current reboot is probably better, in my opinion, than the last one.
