Hello.

I am Alex's oldest son Eric. I meant to be the one to let everyone know that my father did pass away this morning drawing/writing at his table. I do not have any further details other than I will forward an address for those interested in sending cards. We will arrange something appropriate at or around the convention this summer in San Diego. As John shared, all of your cards and letters of the recent past were very much appreciated by my father. Only in these last years did he begin to understand and accept the fact that his work had touched so many people's lives. In time, more information will follow.

It's a real tragedy. Genius is such a rare thing, and Alex Toth was certainly that. He had a light touch; his inking looked amazing in black and white. He did it all. Science fiction, animation...

Kids all over the world have grown up with the cartoons based on his concept art. Didn't he do work on SUPERFRIENDS as well as his famous creations like SPACE GHOST?

The one detail that really got me choked up was the fact he died on his drawing table. It reminds me of Jackie Wilson, another great entertainer like Toth, who passed away while on stage at a concert.

This is very sad news.  Toth was one of the greatest artists in the medium, certainly up there with Eisner and Kirby in my estimation, and his stuff was just as amazing at the end of his life as it was decades ago.

I was just reading through my TPB of Toth's "Zorro" work the other day and marveling at how powerful his work is in black and white (it should be noted this is the only book I have ever -- and likely WILL ever -- be moved to purchase under the Image Comics label).  And I'm still working on the Showcase volume of "House of Mystery," where Toth's handful of stories stand head and shoulders above the other tales in the book, which is saying something in a book that also features Neal Adams, Joe Orlando, Gil Kane and Wally Wood.

Yes, Toth did the designs for "Superfriends."  They tended to get watered down pathetically by the animators, but in the stills used in the opening credits (to establish who the various heroes were), you can see where they traced/inked over Toth's concept drawings.

This is really a bummer.  I just found the Toth site and boards and was looking forward to those periodic messages from Alex.

Bravo for Adventure is excellent and I would really love to see a definitive Toth collection from DC.
