Okay, I usually don't have much patience for folks who want to read a homo-erotic context into everything comics, but even I have to admit this cover makes you go "Hmmmm..."

Two super-powered teenage boys, one cute teenage girl, and what do the boys do?  Use their X-ray vision to check out each other!  We have to assume from the thought balloons that neither boy had reason to suspect the other, so what exactly happened the moment before this image?

"Hmm...there's Clark Kent and Lana Lang.  Think I'll look through Clark's clothes!"

"Here I go walking with Lana Lang to school.  Oooh, a new boy, let's look through his clothes!"

Of course a "straight," if no less honorable scenario would be that both boys checked out Lana before checking out each other.  But you have to wonder how "heroic" it is to greet everyone you meet by "undressing them with your eyes."

LOL!

There was a lot of weird kinky stuff happening in those Morty edited Superman comics that looking back at them now, make you do a double take.

I mean look at this cover, I mean really look :

Oh Great One - I loved seeing the Tales of Superman increase from five web pages to seven and with promises of more to come.  Thank you.

As for the kinky stuff - would make for an interesting thread under the main superman forum

That was great seeeing that golden oldie with flawless art by the maestro Curt and inks by Papp (?).  The reproduction was crisp as mint.

Klar, I'm not sure what Papp inking Swan would look like, but in this story I would say it's Swan and George Klein.

Yes... beautiful art!

I have some questions:

1) Is this the FIRST EVER appearance of Ultra Boy?

2) Why does Ultra Boy seem to have only one super-power? Either that, or the writer (Siegel?) has played down his ability to use ultra energy for other powers like super-strength and flight.

3) Was there ever another story in which Ultra Boy joined the Legion? I just have a really dim memory of something somewhere in my collection with Ultra Boy recounting the tale of his origin to the Legionnaires. (It's easier to ask my fellow fans than try to find that comic book.)

Yup, this is Ultra Boy's first ever appearance.  It could be that his powers weren't completely worked out yet.

Thanks for the reply.

Obviously someone decided a vision power alone wasn't interesting enough.

I've always liked Ultra Boy, and I've always thought his limitation to use only one super-power at a time was a neat idea.
