Jewel Kryptonite, totally a fake?

Did this substance help to focus Phantom Zone thoughts or was it completely a sham?  I could never tell for sure...

Jewel K allowed the Phantom Zoners to focus their thoughts and detonate structures or mountains.  

It took three of them to combine their power to cause a short in the phantom zone projector, but electronic devices are a lot more vulnerable to that type of manipulation compared to a mountain side.

Doesnt it amplify a whisper to a shout or is that one of Jimmy's space trophies?

I just always thought it was weird that it wasn't included as "real" Kryptonite even after it had a demonstrated and potentiallly dangerous property...

I suppose two things might rule it out...

1. I am not aware of any Jewel Kryptonite that was morphed by the explosion of Krypton into a "new" radioactive substance

2. I wonder if it will amplify the thoughts of anyone in the Zone, or just Kryptonians?
