Kal-L had better come back, he was the better of the Supermen.

And Wally West was the best Flash

He's as dead as anyone ever is in comics.

Which is to say, not at all.

I think an interesting angle would be for some sort of god-like entity to intervene and say that Kal-L is his Herald (similar to Silver Surfer with Galactus), and that, while he is indeed dead, he can and will return at times when the heroes of the Universe need his help. That would be more dignified than just being dead, but coming back every now and then.

Rao?

Well, now that Earth-2 is back, soon he will return as well.

Too much money to be made.. er... fan support to let him be dead for good.

turn the original superman into a rip off of the silver surfer?

Kal-L should stay his own man, fighting for truth justice and the (sigh) american way. otherwise we would loose who superman actually is, it would be like teh whole "Hal Jordan- Spectre" thing again

Ok, if no one writes a story about a character for say 30 years, is that character dead or just standing very still?
