I wish this series was on DVD, until then check these videos out:

BTW, the series was based on Pre-Crisis Superman comics (somewhat), not Post-Crisis like some people mistakenly believe.

I wish more of the Ruby-Spears oldies were out on DVD.  Besides Superman, there was Thundarr, and even Plastic Man holds some small perverse appeal.

Fantastic!

Marv Wolfman wrote The Adoption! According to tv.com, Superman 1988 was a celebration of 50 years of Superman and only 13 episodes aired. I wonder who owns the rights?

Super Monkey, thanks for posting. I'm always on the lookout for 1960-1980 superhero cartoons.

This is my favorite version of Superman! I wish the comics were like this! (hence the reason why I named myself after it) Is the reason it's not out on DVD becasue of the Superboy lawsuit?

These are the first Superman cartoons I ever saw...of course, as a kindergartner I didn't realize it was Superman's 50th birthday. We watched Superfriends every afternoon, and the Superboy tv show came on saturdays...  Smiley

I really hope that all of Superman's animated catalog eventually comes out on DVD. However, it took 65 years for the Fleischer cartoons to be restored and get a proper home video release. Maybe we'll have to wait until the Ruby Spears catalog is in public domain and the Unknown Bryan Singer of 4500 A.D. makes a movie.

I was 27 years old in 1988, so I completely missed these cartoons, but I like what they look like.

What network did they run on?

I always assumed this series was meant to show a more post-Crisis-ish Superman (given it's the first animated series made after Byrne's reboot, and the Superman-Photo-Album flashbacks seemed more post-Crisis than pre-Crisis in tone to me [no Superboy])... though I haven't seen it in years.

The series ran for one season only on CBS in 1988-89.
