Superman is alive! The new movie,"Smallville","All star, birthright, post Infinity crisis, many and many elseworld...Seems that Superman has become a permanent icon, like Hercules or King Arthur. So in yours opinion between one hundred years will be still ? And in which version? I imagine that comics of paper will be replaced from other (virtual reality? olograms? comics online?),and which version of Superman will be? series like "Smallville" will make part of  continuity? and how many soft and hard reboot ? ("Crisis of infinity crisis","Crisis of all crisis",Hei, folks,THIS IS a real Crisis".....). for now i think that we are entering  in the "many Supermen age":will be many versions of Superman for many kind of readers. Is probable that the most interestings elements of these versions will be arranged in the next version of Superman.

One hundred years from now, Superman will be a recurring character in the popular holoporn movies that will be shown to children during intergalactic flights.

Actually, sorry if I sounded a bit flippant, because Carmelo raises a good point: will people still be talking about Superman 100 years from now? My guess is yes; I think he is a character who will endure - Sherlock Holmes was created more than 100 years ago, and the public never seems to tire of him. Superman's the same sort of thing. I don't doubt that the general idea will still be around: came from another planet, lots of powers, pretends to be one of us.

However, who knows what the world will look like in 100 years? I doubt that comic books will still exist, or even movies or TV (I'm not even going to mention books). For all I know, people will be sitting around campfires telling each other stories of the Great Hunter from Krypton.

Either that, or Holoporn on intergalactic flights.

People still talk about Hercules so why not Superman?

A friend of mine actually suggested that in a few thousand years a future civilization will believe that Superman was a god we worshipped. This would make sense given his history and how close to mythology he is based. I don't think people will be still following new adventures of him but I do think he will be known as a mythic figure.

I keep picturing a scene similiar to that one in an episode of Star Trek TNG when the Enterprise finds a frozen capsule of people from the 20th century and unfreezes them. 400-500 years from now, some unfrozen person from our era will be going through a star ship data base looking for old episodes of Superman. In between trips to the holodeck for some of that sweet, sweet Holoporn of course! Grin

The coolest part of this is that maybe by 2017 you'd be able to spend your time sorting through the various incarnations of Superman and be taken seriously as a scholar and make something of a living at it.  Maybe all English Departments will offer a concentration in 20th/21st Century Graphic Literature.  Hmm...sounds fun...better start saving up for the cyrogenic treatment.
