Huge news for Super-Fans!!

Hmm... but Supergirl already has two hardcover Archives.  Will Showcase Presents simply reprint the early Action Comics stories in black-and-white?  That might hurt continued Supergirl Archives sales and hopes for a third volume, or has DC given up on further Supergirl Archives and simply gone with the Showcase Presents format?

Or will this begin with her later solo career?  Certainly the first Supergirl series could easily be compiled in its entirety within a single Showcase Presents, but remember there was a GOOD reason why this mishandled run died after only ten wretched issues!   Wink

It includes Supergirl's Silver Age stories right from the beginning, in 1959.

Maybe they are going for a less expensive format than the archive editions? They started reprinting the '70s JSA series in stardard softcover tpb style a couple of years ago and will be reprinting the LOSH Baxter series in the same format in the near future.

Even the colorized phonebook sized collections like the Doomsdays Omnibus and OWAW aren't priced that much more than the Showcase editions. Maybe it's a case of them testing the waters for a new format?

Consensus is all the omens are bad for the Archives, sad to say.  They may well be winding down, or done already.

World's Finest is one book I definitely prefer in color; my three Archive editions are one of the absolute highlights of my collection.  On the other hand, Showcase is probably the only way I'd get the Supergirl material...not much love for Jim Mooney.

The best news, IMHO, is Sgt Rock.  That's one of the very few war titles I've ever been interested in, but lot of folks were betting DC wouldn't put him in a Showcase so long as his Archives sold so well.  Hmmm...on the other hand, maybe this isn't good news, but another clue the Archives are really dead after all.

Looking forward to the contents list on Brave and Bold 2.  When they hit the Aparo era, I am so in!
