There's also a 1946 Captain Marvel story (mentioned by TELLE here: http://superman.nu/smf/index.php?topic=2774.msg21743#msg21743) in which he survives a nuclear war - he seemed to be more involved in politics than most superheroes of his day!

Always loved the tone of Captain Marvel stories.

The Marvel Family were still being pubbed during the Korean War and they were shown helping GI's in that conflict, as they had during World War II.  Most comic publishers were anti-Communist at the time, as, let's face it, was America.  (I still am.)  DC was kinda noteworthy in their refusal to use Commies as villains, for the most part.  That's just the way it was.

I'm a BIG writer of fanfic, much of it about Supergirl but covering lots of characters in lots of comic universes.  Check the stories out at http://Dark_Mark.tripod.com/darkmark1.htm and at http://darkmark90.tripod.com/darkmark2.html .
