This does look pretty good! I love that scene with Wonder Woman and the Korean women carousing.

Ummm...

Am I crazy, or didn't DC originally promise to maintain the original art styles for these new comics-to-DVD projects?  Weren't we led to believe that "Superman/Doomsday" would have a Jurgens look, "New Frontier" a Cooke look, and so on?  So far all we're getting is a "Bruce Timm on Slim-Fast" look.  Not awful, mind you, but not nearly as fun as what I was hoping for.

I guess I can give up a Perez look for the "Judas Contract" Titans film.  Sigh...

Darwyn Cooke was a storyboard artist for the DCAU and is actively involved with The New Frontier's translation to animation.  I suspect it'll turn out just fine.  I wouldn't be too quick to judge it from precisely one frame.

Well, unless they're doing this thing without model sheets and don't mind the characters changing appearance tremendously from one scene to the next, I'd say one frame is enough to judge by.  Wonder Woman here is angular and lantern-jawed compared to the Cooke version, who was zaftig and had a chin so soft and round her head sometimes looked like Lucy VanPelt's.

I just did a Google search for the original announcement, and reading it over again I see I made some false assumptions.  Somehow I was thinking these projects would try to recreate the art styles of the original comics, hence my interest.  Apparently that was not really promised, so my bad.

Don't get me wrong, I love Bruce Timm, but after 15 years I get a little hungry for something new.  I was only really interested in these things for the novelty of "animating" the work of various artists.  Not only would it mean a Perez-looking Titans film but maybe, someday, a Swan-like "Superman Red and Superman Blue", a Marshall Rogers-style "Darknight Detective" or a Kirby "Fourth World" feature.  I already KNOW they can do animation based on standard Timm designs...I've got a couple shelves full of them.  Why would people get excited about seeing a Timm adaptation of classic comic book stories?  JLU, BTAS and STAS are full of them.  If these new things look like all the other cartoons, then all they are in the end is a standard WB superhero cartoon without the virtue of actually having an original story!  "Hey kids! A new cartoon!  It looks just like the rest of them, but this time you already know the story!  Pretty exciting, huh?"

Whatever.  More money saved for that sweet new Popeye collection.
