A collection of documents pertaining to the initial 1947 litigation between Superman's two creators, Jerry Siegel and Joseph Shuster, and their publisher, National Periodical Publications, that is now being offered for sale by EsquireComics.com.

The several hundred page collection, which is primarily comprised of contemporaneous copies of trial exhibits (particularly correspondence from 1937 - 1946 between Siegel and DC officials), contracts, legal briefs submitted by Siegel and Shuster's counsel and apparently the original Superboy script introducing the character, and also includes original signed letters by artist Wayne Boring and Shuster, was obtained by the current owner nearly 20 years ago when the files were discarded.

The documents, while not a complete set of the records from the 1947-48 litigation (the rest were destroyed), offer insights it might not be possible to gain otherwise.

"For historians and attorneys in particular, these papers reveal last an in-depth portrait of the personal relationships between a young Siegel and Shuster and DC legends such as Jack Liebowitz and Whit Ellsworth. One can actually trace the path that eventually led to a legal battle that crossed generations and involved one of the most popular and important characters in the annals of pop culture," said Mark S. Zaid, Esq., owner of EsquireComics.com and an Advisor to The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide.

Copies of highlights of the collection will be available for inspection during the San Diego Comic-Con. Arrangements can be made, and all serious offers for the entire collection will be entertained, by contacting Zaid at EsquireComics@aol.com or (202) 498-0011.
